The week long program will familiarize you with our campus culture and expansive resources, introduce you to (literally) hundreds of new people, and guide you through your first week of classes. Your Roadmap to WOW

Wondering how to get started with WOW? Follow these steps to begin your Mustang Journey!

Step 1: Accept Your Offer

Accept your Offer of Admission from Cal Poly through your Cal Poly Portal to secure your spot at Cal Poly and allow you to register for SLO Days and the Week of Welcome (WOW). 

Step 2: Register for SLO Days and WOW

Once you've selected your SLO Days date, register for SLO Days and through your Cal Poly Portal under the "Orientation Events" tab. ​​​​​​​

  • Are you interested in participating in Week of Welcome's Cross Cultural Experience? Sign up when you register for WOW!

    • This Week of Welcome option seeks to form a community for students who identify as a member of an underrepresented group including, but not limited to: various racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, and economic class.
    • CCE includes alternative experiences for WOWies such as: fun activities, workshops, discussions, and a multicultural resource fair that centers the voices of underrepresented students at Cal Poly and ensures that as a CCE participant you are connecting to resources and communities that will help you be a successful Mustang! 

Step 3: Prepare for WOW Plan Your Schedule

Download the "Orientation 2020" guide available May 2020 in the Cal Poly Now app and prepare for Move In and the Week of Welcome!

Step 4: Bring $25

Once you've arrived on campus and have moved in, you'll need to check in for WOW prior to WOW Grouping! Before you arrive, you'll receive an email with your group number and grouping time.

Step 5: Move-in and Check-in for WOW September 11-12

  • On Campus Students: Once you arrive on campus and have moved-in, head to your residence hall at your assigned time (available August 2020) September 11-12 to check-in. You will check-in for WOW at the time of move-in.
  • On Campus Early Move-In Program Students: Students who moved onto campus prior to September 11 can check in for WOW any time between on September 12. Check-In is located at the UU Plaza.
  • Off Campus students: Check-in for WOW will be on September 12 in the UU Plaza. It’s important all students check-in to receive your WOWie wristband and information to necessary to participate in WOW.

Step 6: Find Your Group

  • All student must check- in prior to meeting their group in order to participate. WOW groups form the morning of Sunday, September 13. You will receive an email from orientation@calpoly.edu with your WOW Group number and time. Students must be wearing their WOWie wristband (received at WOW check-in) before they meet their group.
  • For Sunday, September 13, make sure to wear your green "Mustang Way" shirt you receive at WOW check-in to grouping and Big Fall Welcome.
  • There are three grouping times and hundreds of grouping numbers. Group numbers are associated with the hall you're living in and have a corresponding time. Pay close attention to you group number and it's corresponding time in the email you receive prior to WOW Grouping!

Step 7: Enjoy WOW!

Enjoy the start of your Mustang Journey! You will be guided throughout the Week with other new students by two volunteer WOW Leaders - you will get to explore campus & San Luis Obispo, learn more about resources & academics, engage in discussion surrounding awareness topics, and start building your Cal Poly community!
