Your Cal Poly Story Begins with WOW

Known simply as WOW, Week of Welcome is a 65-year-old tradition designed to help you kick off your Cal Poly journey through dynamic academic and community-building experiences. WOW is the official beginning of your experience as a Mustang, when all new students come together in the days leading up to the fall semester.

Key Dates

Check-in for WOW is located in the University Union Plaza during these times:

Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

We recommend you check in before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, to ensure you have all your materials and information before WOW starts.

WOW Overview

WOW is a dynamic collection of activities, events and programs to deepen your connection to campus life, resources and lots of Cal Poly Mustangs! During WOW you will:

Meet many new and current Mustangs and form new friendships.
Connect with other Mustangs through community-building activities, intentional conversations, and a wide variety of interactive events.
Participate in a variety of fun and exciting activities.
Discover how to get connected and involved at Cal Poly by attending the Club Showcase.
Get the scoop on how to navigate the college experience. 
Hear tips from advisors on how to succeed academically at Cal Poly.

Your WOW group will be led by two current Cal Poly students. These Orientation Leaders will guide you through WOW and help connect you to the Cal Poly community. Each day there will be check-in with your WOW group, socials and activities, required presentations and programs, community building, and ample break time. Your specific group schedule will be shared by your Orientation Leaders in your first small group meeting.

Information for Parents and Supporters

Unlike SLO Days, Week of Welcome is only for students. But after you move in your student in August, be sure to join our Parent and Family Programs team for Evening with the President, a chance to mingle with university leadership, including the college deans. More information will be available closer to the event.

Note: Parents and supporters do not attend WOW.
