Meet Your Student Leaders
Cal Poly’s Orientation program relies on student leaders, who work hard to support admitted and incoming students and their families as they start their Mustang journey.
Orientation Leadership Team
Students plan, coordinate and implement all aspects of New Student and Transition Programs’ summer and fall orientation programs, SLO Days and Week of Welcome (WOW). The Orientation Leadership Team strives to provide orientation programs that connect new students and supporters to one another, key resources and the campus community.
Open House Team
The Open House student team plans and produces the entirety of Cal Poly’s 33rd annual Open House weekend. Working closely with campus and community partners, the students organize an event-filled weekend that showcases Cal Poly and celebrates current students, families and alumni.
SLO Days Summer Crew
Students serve as guides for student and supporter groups, prepare presentations, and take on other tasks to support SLO Days sessions throughout the summer. Comprised of students across Cal Poly colleges, majors and years, the Summer Crew aims to connect with SLO Days attendees, share their Cal Poly knowledge and experience, and provide a welcoming first impression of campus to students and supporters.
WOW Leaders
More than 600 WOW Leaders guide new Mustangs through their first week at Cal Poly during Week of Welcome. Current students must participate in a leadership training retreat to gain the necessary qualifications to become a WOW Leader, including cultural competency and inclusion, drug and alcohol awareness, leadership development, public speaking, group facilitation, and in-depth knowledge of campus and community resources.
WOW Leader gain invaluable leadership development, make connections across campus and the city of San Luis Obispo, and get to support incoming students through their first week at Cal Poly.
